Founded in 1880, EMCH is now the largest lift company manufacturing in Switzerland
 and employs more than 220 people. The Swiss heritage company is now run by Bernhard and Hansjürg Emch, the fourth generation of family management, and operates internationally from planning and design engineering to installation. EMCH specialises in lift systems involving special requirements. Every single component is manufactured from start to finish in the company's own factory at its headquarters in Bern. As passionate lift architects, EMCH has the following philosophy: no lift is impossible. Every system, new or refurbished, is considered as a joint effort – resulting from the customers' needs, the architects' vision and the skills of EMCH's lift constructors.

Bernhard Emch
CEO EMCH Aufzüge AG
Bernhard Emch is a mechanical engineer ETH and completed the Owner/President Management Program at Harvard Business School. In 2002, he joined the family business in the fourth generation and took over the operational management of EMCH Aufzüge AG in 2005. As CEO, he established the company from a local elevator manufacturer to an internationally active premium provider of elevator systems. In addition to his role as CEO, Bernhard Emch is strongly committed to the Bern region as a business location.

Hansjürg Emch
Chairman of the Board of Directors EMCH Aufzüge AG
Hansjürg Emch has been a member of the Board of Directors of EMCH Aufzüge AG since 2002. From 2011 to 2019, he was a member of the Sonova Group Management Board and was responsible for the Californian subsidiary Advanced Bionics. Prior to that, he worked for 14 years at the Swiss-American medtech group Synthes, most recently as Global President of the spine division Synthes Spine. Hansjürg Emch holds an ETH degree in industrial engineering and completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School.

Daniel Steiger
Head of Sales and Marketing EMCH Aufzüge AG
Daniel Steiger has been working for EMCH Aufzüge AG for over 25 years. As an external consultant, he helped reposition the company and took over the position of Head of Sales 17 years ago. He manages the strategy and business development for the new installations, conversion and repair business in Switzerland and abroad. Thanks to his background as a long-standing partner and co-owner of a Bern-based communications agency, he is now also responsible for marketing and communications. Daniel Steiger holds a Master of Science ETH in Architecture.

Dorothee Auwärter
Member of the Board SMG, President of the Board of Directors Kuhn Rikon AG
Dorothee Auwärter is Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and part of the owner family of Kuhn Rikon AG. She is also a partner in the commercial law firm Schiller Rechtsanwälte AG in Winterthur, a member of the board committee of Swissmem and a member of the board of directors of various companies. Dorothee Auwärter studied at the University of Neuchâtel (lic. iur. 2003) and at the University of St. Gallen (Executive MBA HSG 2012) and was admitted to the Zurich Bar in 2006.

Arrival by public transport

By train: From Bern main station it is a 10-minute train ride to "Bümpliz Nord" station (departure in Bern from platform 12 or 13). From there it is only a few minutes' walk to the EMCH main entrance.

Arrival by car

From Zurich and Fribourg, take the Bern-Bethlehem exit. From Murten and Neuchâtel, take the Bern-Brünnen exit. There are no reserved parking spaces available. The nearest parking garage is the "Westside Parking" at Riedbachstrasse 90-120. From there, via Riedbachstrasse and Fellerstrasse, it is 900 meters on foot or you can take the train from the stop "Bern Brünnen Westside" for one stop to "Bern Bümpliz Nord".
